Demons are a kind of supernatural entity that have played a role in many of A Haunting's stories.

Unlike ghosts, demons are not deceased people. They are ancient, non-human and extremely vicious beings that -- when released into the mortal world -- exist as parasites, attaching themselves to a particular individual or group and feeding on negative emotions. This first stage is known as demonic attachment. When the attachment turns into total control, it is known as demonic possession.

Demons have many otherworldly abilities; the most dangerous of which include invisible attack, the ability to cause illness and discomfort, and the manipulation of human minds and bodies. While they are often portrayed in A Haunting as monsters with sharp claws and teeth, in most real-world cases they materialize as shadows, dark mists or glowing red eyes.

In religions throughout the world, demonic attachments and possessions are dealt with through an intense prayer ritual known as exorcism. Although most exorcisms succeed, there have been documented cases in which the demon has been too powerful to be banished. One such case was portrayed in the Nightmare in Bridgeport episode of A Haunting (season five, episode three).
